As 2025 approaches, the NHS, must keep pushing for apprenticeships if we are to have a workforce for the future. Action that supports financial and meaningful investment by NHS trusts is needed today, let’s stop ignoring the fact that our current workforce is ageing and tired.

Really honoured to be asked to chair the 10th anniversary operating theatre conference in Manchester in the 6th Feb. I hope colleagues will be able to attend. A great speaker line up planned covering multiple topics on safety, activity and our green carbon footprint.

My current PhD thesis is coming to its final conclusion. I’ve written a new skeleton policy based on direct feedback received by the theatre safety experts, which I’m happy to share with patient safety colleagues at NHS England to improve the WHO SSC and NatSSIPs adherence.

After 1,172 days (1,285.5hrs) a landmark day today. I have triggered my ‘intention to submit’ at the University of Derby for my PhD. The best feeling to date. All the hardwork is paying off, all my spare time has been ploughed into my thesis. Thanks to everyone for supporting me.

PhD VIVA date - 16th June. Anyone considering a PhD I would advise to do it. A lot of time, stress and dedication, but the rewards conferences/ papers, and writing a chapter in the new Fundamentals of Perioperative Practice' by Wiley Blackwell is very rewarding. Thank UOD.
