Yr 10 work experience finally highlights to our young people that it’s not what you know, it’s who you know.

While Y6s across England sit SATs today, mine are boarding a boat for a week of challenge, growth & adventure. No test papers. No scores. Just real learning. We don’t do SATs or centralised standardised testing on the Isle of Man - and that’s a strength we must never lose šŸ‡®šŸ‡²

#EHCP shake-up considered as part of SEND reforms - adviser - Please read this story carefully and tell us your views - EHCPs only for special schools? - Only for education, no health/social care? schoolsweek.co.uk/ehcp-shake-up-…

ā€œLenehan added that the ā€œchallenge is how bold and brave you want to beā€ What a profile in courage that is. Very, very obvious who will need to generate new reserves of bravery in this scenario, and it’s not vol-au-vent fuelled workshop and webinar wranglers

Professionals consistently don’t follow the law regarding EHCP’s. Shall we improve accountability? No, let’s get rid of EHCP’s.

As said by others, far more eloquently, there’s nothing wrong with #send law. Claims to the contrary are feeble. What’s wrong is; 1. Resourcing for (all) schools 2. Blaming disabled people 3. Blaming those whose advocate for them Saddened & v. angry. x.com/SEN_advice/sta…

If this goes ahead (tightening eligibility criteria for statutory SEND support) then restriction of appeal rights to the SEND First Tier Tribunal will almost certainly be coming too

The narrative of the SEND system failing / being broken has been effective. The shift to blaming the system rather than holding to account those who have failed / refused to enact it lawfully or ethically has allowed children with SEND to be perceived as the problem.

We need to be teaching journalistic literacy in schools. The ability to critically evaluate various news sources and recognise when information isn’t credible is a necessary skill . Media messages shape culture and society.

The fundamental problem with suggestion to dilute EHC Plans is that they *reflect* #SEND needs, they don’t create needs. Govt can reduce statutory entitlements, but can’t legislate away need - so any new framework will break just as the current one has unless properly resourced

Evidence suggests that extensive investment into academisation has not consistently led to better outcomes for young people. So it’s worth questioning the continued allocation of substantial funds to academy CEO’s when ā€˜no funds’ are a persistent problem in education.

Inclusion is not about making YOUR life easier. It is not about making extra resources for the purpose of showing off to teacher colleagues. It is not about YOU defining what another’s inclusion looks like. It is not about physical space.
