To give context on age, Grace Hopper began computing at 38, completed the first compiler at 46, helped shape COBOL at 53, kept developing COBOL for the Navy in her 70s, retired from the Navy at 80 & then became a consultant for the Digital Equipment Corporation. v/Peter Cooper

Some prefer math and rigour, personally I like intuitive explanations. This monograph has plenty of both! I love how much time is spent linking different perspectives (variational, score-based, flow-based) together. Chapter 6 in particular is really great. Amazing effort! 👏

Overwhelmed by the number of Diffusion LLM papers? 🌊 Same here 😭 So I’m starting a Discrete Diffusion Reading Group (Discrete Diffusion Reading Group) with my favorite disciples Justin Deschenaux and Zhihan Yang ✨ We’ll cover everything—from theory to empirics, from language to molecules. Join

“when a field is getting started, it’s easy to confuse the essence of what you’re doing with the tools you’re using” what is the essence of LLM Studies? could LLMs just be one instantiation of a broader abstraction? please don’t answer “ml theory”

It would be useful if there was general agreement that the current range of AI capabilities will result in good & bad things, and we had more specific efforts (parallel to the larger existential discussions) to make the good stuff work for more people & mitigate the obvious bad.

if you want to contribute to open-source but don't know where to begin and just want to use AI, please don't avoid writing AI comments to GH repository issues, not only you are taking maintainers' time but it's also misleading for other devs same goes for PRs, most

I’ve complained about peer review. Have you? I’ve a couple or more of reviewer awards 📛 in my jacket. Do you? When I've talked to colleagues most of (maybe all) the time, we complained about others & rarely talk about our own weaknesses or unconscious bad practices as reviewers
