51 votes to make the 51st state. Let's grant #DCStatehood and give the 700k+ mostly Black and Brown residents of D.C. the representation they deserve.

“We can’t continue living in fear of the whims of a white member of Congress from thousands of miles away. The only remedy to protect the 700,000 Washingtonians in perpetuity is to make D.C. the 51st state.”- Jamal Holtz huffpost.com/entry/dc-state…

On Abortion Provider Appreciation Day, we honor the abortion providers across the District by calling for #DCStatehood. Reminder: Without #DCStatehood, we do not have full access to reproductive health care and abortion ⬇️

In 1960 Congress approved the 23rd Amendment, which allowed D.C. citizens to vote in presidential elections. In 2020 and again in 2021, the House passed H.R. 51, the Washington, D.C. Admission Act. Now, we are demanding #DCStatehood finally become a reality.

Today, exactly 160 year after enslaved people were freed in D.C., the project of emancipation is not yet complete for our majority-Black and Brown community. Let’s commit to ending emancipation without representation. whywecantwait.com

Another #TaxDay, another year without representation for the people of DC. D.C. residents are forced to pay federal taxes each year, without any of the same rights as other Americans. It's high time our community has equal representation in our democracy. #DCStatehood

One year ago the House passed H.R. 51 – the Washington D.C. Admissions Act – with a record number of cosponsors. Still today, the 700,000 mostly Black and Brown residents of D.C. don’t have full voting rights. We can’t keep waiting. We need #DCStatehood NOW.

Abortion access is a #DCStatehood issue. That’s why tomorrow, our community must come together to demand the protection of our reproductive rights. Be there.

D.C. residents are still fighting for an equal voice in our democracy, but we know all too well the power of voting. It’s time to make sure that ALL of our voices are heard. ⤵️
