Busy 1st week of the year in NYS Gov't. Governor Kathy Hochul -The first woman elected as Governor of NYS- was inaugurated; & @CarlHeastie & Sen. Stewart-Cousins opened the 2023 legislative session. Let's work 2gether to achieve tuition rate methodology reform to better serve our SWDs!

We are pleased to see such robust funding for public schools in #SOTS2023 & look forward to an Executive Budget that continues historic investments in SWDs in 853 schools too thru significant rate growth & interim plus rates; & provides a path to tuition rate methodology reform!

We are thrilled to see Governor Kathy Hochul include $2.5M in her Executive Budget proposal for NYS Education Department to study and design a new rate-setting methodology! We look forward to a budget that invests in supporting the education and related services SWDs are entitled to and deserve.

Pleasure to be with our colleagues this morning discussing the need for equity & parity in special education, 8.5% COLA, & re-imagining the tuition rate methodology to best support the needs of students in special education in NY!

853 Coalition Board members were in Albany this week highlighting the need for investments in: our 853 school students on par with those in district schools; interim plus rates; and tuition rate methodology reform (some pictured here). We thank them for their incredible advocacy!

It was wonderful to have so many of our members back in person for our annual meeting yesterday, and to be able to honor some of our board members for their dedicated service to students with disabilities and the field of education!

It was a pleasure to join Coalition member St. Catherine's Center for Children for the Grand Opening of the state's first Family Opportunity Center. Attendees got to tour the newly renovated center and learn how major state and federal investments strengthen families.

What a great event The Charlton School! Glad to have been able to attend the 5th Annual Equine Expo this afternoon. The students and the horses were so impressive! Already looking forward to next year.

Our BFFs group had a fantastic time at a recent Bisons game! Each year the Bisons donate tickets to Summit's BFFs program. This is a wonderful opportunity for program participants to attend a sporting event with friends. Thank you, Buffalo Bisons, for a special evening out! ⚾️❤️

This week was all about fun at the R & E May School! There was a “construction site” for digging around, equipped with lemonade and a temporary tattoo station. In addition, an obstacle course was set up in the gym for children to race remote controlled cars. 🚗💨 #HopeForTomorrow
