Evidently it’s very threatening to state attorney generals that Llano County might have a book about a farting leprechaun on the shelf. So much so that they’ve filed an amicus brief and the Fifth Circuit court is going to rehear the case with the full court. 😠

Y'all, we're late to this one, but... *please* read this thread. It confirms, in the most ludicrous way, what we already know: book banners falsely use "pornography" as an excuse to ban things they just don't like.

The Episcopal Church passes a resolution to #UniteAgainstBookBans, noting how bans—especially those targeting books by & about the BIPOC & LGBTQ+ communities—are in opposition to calls for inclusion w/in the church & the world. Read more ⬇️ uniteagainstbookbans.org/resolution-fro… UBE

A second Court in Escambia County denied the School Board and Superintendent protection from testifying. They will have to explain why they made certain decisions that went against the committee recommendations. (Looking at you, Indian River.) sun-sentinel.com/2024/07/22/flo…

A police investigative report that was 824 freaking pages long, to stop kids from reading library books. Is this what keeps cops busy in Texas?

Huntington Beach residents don't want our libraries outsourced to a for-profit company. You can help by signing our petitions, join our march on Main Street every Friday (meet at 5:45 Main Street Library), and follow Protect HB on all the social media platforms.

As Anne says, librarians aren’t felons and library books aren’t porn. But it’s important to note that extremists in Texas are trying to change legal definitions so librarians *can* be charged with felonies for shelving books like The Bluest Eye.

Untold waste in time and taxpayer money. State censorship like something out of a dystopian novel. Lives upturned by spurious investigations. This is the future book banners want.

From school board minutes in WI, in a debate where Gender Queer was ultimately retained: “A Board member clarified that they believe that the book should be restricted. Their concern is that a student may have questions after they have read the book.” Questions. How awful.
