It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of retired Police Horse “Max”.  Max was 23 years old, served the department for roughly 20 years, and is credited with beginning the careers of many Horse Mounted Unit officers.  Max, you will be sorely missed.

Our Impact detectives tracked down the suspect who is believed to have caused extensive damage to the Albuquerque Museum and Old Town businesses. They arrested Dominic Ayan, 40, who our Downtown officers have contacted at least 15 times in the last few years.

We lost a dedicated member of the APD family today. Officer Bianca Quintana died while off-duty in the South Valley. BCSO (Sheriff) NM is investigating her tragic death. Everyone at APD extends our most sincere condolences to her family.

Today we celebrated the life of Officer Bianca Quintana. We heard stories from her loved ones about how she always strived to be better. Her dedication to her family, friends and community was very apparent. My heartfelt condolences go out to her family, both blood and blue.

Great work by our detectives to take these dangerous individuals into custody. Proud of our strong partnership with ATF HQ and the ability to use federal charges on these suspects.

Great work by our Criminal Investigations Division, both building this case and apprehending wanted homicide offender Houston Coates.

Each week I’m asked what is APD doing about drug possession. Year to date our hard working officers at Albuquerque Police Department have arrested and charged 1931 people for possession of drugs. Help me in thanking these officers for their hard work. Let’s give them the credit they deserve.

One of our officers was shot while responding to a call for service earlier tonight. He is doing ok and with family now.

We saw a 7% decrease in auto thefts in 2024. The attached graph was produced on 1/15/2025 by the Real Time Crime Center and is subject to change as reports are finalized. The statistics are based on the National Incident-Based Reporting System.

Our department stands with Virginia Beach Police Department during this difficult time losing 2 officers. Through our partnership with Major Cities Chiefs Association we mourn with you and send our support.
