'Brambles'... there's a Lincolnshire word for gathering them: 'brambling'. Sadly, I stopped brambling in the countryside several years ago because of what I heard about crop-spraying... These are from my garden. I wish you good fruit!

Poignantly, 'S.E. Gobey's Receipt book' came from strangers - a friend of a kind friend. Who was she? I the name in Stroud & Bristol. She may be Sarah Elizabeth Gobey, a Master Carpenter's daughter. Her handwriting seems sophisticated. Here's my favourite pudding!

A tiny wren says good morning! Terrible video as I crouched by the window, entranced by an unbelievably small bird in a suburban buddleia. How birds love bushes! Do you have wrens?

Here's a wren in rich light on Cooper's Hill, Gloucestershire, where there are superb woodpiles where wrens can feed and hide thanks to @Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust !

Very touched by huge interest in the 1859 recipes I was given! Had meant to post re my new nonfiction prose book 'Village', ( awash with traditional food & drink, including my Great-Aunt Mag's exploding elderflower champagne)! But the villagers agree we must put Miss Gobey first!

So the villagers & I will now rush to answer kind requests for Miss Gobey's 'receipts'. We're very keen-& inept!If you've not had your remedy by Friday, do ask again! The desk in photo recurs in 'Village'.From my own grandmother's kitchen-from her grandmother Eliza's Lost Farm.

My villagers apologise for delays in posting 1850s recipes. They report that early morning was wasted: writing a poem! After requests were noticed, household tasks -some involving fruit- intervened. Now we start.. Why not, they ask, cook an Omelet for all? Only 1 gill of cream...

Rain! Such a blessing for gardeners, if not for holidaymakers. But dry in Gloucestershire today, I think. I wish you appropriate weather!
