The beauty of Inland Dotterels is so under appreciated! Probably because they are so hard to photograph which makes these pics even more special. Thanks for sharing @M_smithii šŸ˜

Martha, the last passenger pigeon, died on this date in 1914 in the Cincinnati Zoo. Before going extinct, they were described as darkening the skies. Numbering in the billions, it could take hours for a flock to fly overhead.

This #ThreatenedSpeciesDay2022 remember the swift parrot - a species on the brink of extinction because of relentless politicisation of forest protection and shameless pillaging of critical habitat

We have just completed our annual Gouldian finch count around Wyndham. The STGF team & volunteers have been surveying here since 2010 using a subset of the same count locations & a well validated survey protocol. This year we had 23 counters! šŸ‘ Report & pics Gary Fitt

I was super excited to band my first Rainbow Bee-eater yesterday! Just look at those colours! This bird is a male, btw. Females are duller and have shorter tail streamers.

Phenomenal. Bar-tailed Godwit has broken its own record: a first-year bird (five months old!) has flown 13,560 km—just shy of the direct flight limit of a Boeing 787—from Alaska to Tasmania, seemingly non-stop, in just 11 days (avg. speed: c.51 km/hr). facebook.com/43794949621875…

Fun fact - some kid superb parrots have colours that look just like their dads - BUT colour is a bad predictor of sex in juveniles! About half of ā€˜male coloured’ kids are actually female šŸŽØšŸ‘€ superb parrots aren’t worried about binaries

#SuperbParrots nesting late at approx. 30% of their typical annual effort in #Canberra. Incubating females looking a little worse for wear, but good to see decent clutches among active nests. #threatenedspecies
