Die feierliche Eröffnung der Forschungsstelle Thomas Bernhard beginnt mit der Begrüßung von ÖAW-Präsident Heinz Faßmann, der auf die Bedeutung von Bernhards Werk für das kulturelle Erbe Österreich hinweist.

Nach den Grußworten der Direktorin des Instituts, Alexandra Lenz, erfahren wir von ÖAW-Altpräsidenten Anton Zeilinger mehr über die Entstehungsgeschichte der Forschungsstelle #ThomasBernhard

Claudia Resch und Norbert Christian Wolf referieren zur Methodik und den geplanten Forschungsagenden der Forschungsstelle, die in Zukunft zentrale Anlaufstelle für Forschungsfragen zu #ThomasBernhard sein soll.

Als Einstimmung auf den Festvortrag liest Mavie Hörbiger das Kapitel "Der Grillparzerpreis" aus dem posthum erschienenen Werk "Meine Preise", in dem #ThomasBernhard seine Erinnerungen an die Preisverleihung im Festsaal der ÖAW beschreibt.

Als Abschluss der Veranstaltung analysiert Norbert Christian Wolf mit dem Vortrag "Kunst der Polemik" die Sprache in den Werken von #ThomasBernhard, interpretiert seine sprachliche Machart und die sowohl boshafte als auch hintergründige Reaktion auf seinen Kritiker Elias Canetti.
