⭐️THREADED TWEET⭐️ I love the reading, writing, and phonological awareness opportunities that are coming through this play. Labelling is supporting both reading & writing: some students are sounding out full words, while others focus on first-sounds.

I am supporting with some segmenting and blending in a kindergarten class. Adding the visuals of the letters, helped connect the oral with reading. She is playing more with sounds here. I want to use some different materials next week to also support the writing component.

This brought me such joy! Risk-taking in both reading & writing. D. joined in at the end with the reading too. Now I know the heart words to look at together.❀️Excited to see this growth, & in an authentic writing opportunity. Love the celebration from the classroom educator too.

The best part about this is when the LRT told me that her brother picked her up after school today and all she could talk about was the reading & writing that she did. A good reminder about the risk-taking & confidence component to these literacy skills! ❀️ cc Maria Marino (she/her/elle)

My son Antonio and I, had an opportunity to attend this thought provoking event. The OHRC Chief Commissioner Patricia DeGuire was truly inspiring. I look forward to continuing to support ARAO and Human Rights practices in education!

Some days you document a lot. On other days, you spend time really watching and thinking. Today was one of the latter days. That's okay. I think that the time really observing & thinking will help me with where to go next.

Tonight, I'm looking back at these four videos by Susan Hopkins, EdD. While the audience is "early childhood educators," I think that the message extends beyond that. So worth a watch! Such important reminders in here. pathstonementalhealth.ca/pathstonetv/dr…. cc Maria Marino (she/her/elle)

A child who's struggled with attendance since September has come every day for over 2 weeks. Today he told me, "I am coming because of this reading group." He has peers in here. He's meeting with success. On my hardest days,I need to remember this. My heart is full! ❀️ Maria Marino (she/her/elle)

D. started a story today that he’s writing using Lego. ❀️ Where could the cat sit? He’s going to add another board. I love the idea of writing using Lego. ❀️

LEGO is such a versatile tool. Some students are creating words out of LEGO. One child is blending the sounds to read what he wrote. The β€œNo, don’t touch,” sign provides an authentic reason to write. What about adding labels to support storytelling and reading?

I keep seeing this shared, & I really appreciate the info in it. I’m curious, what are educators using to inform instruction and later support grading for report cards? Trying to figure out how the progress monitoring, screening tools, & Strand B expectations all come together.

Today, when I came in, the K educators got some students to show me what they did. They started this shelf with the labelling. A couple of students read me their labels and wrote some more. ❀️ 2/?

I had a small group of K students in the library today, and they wanted to play in the kitchen. What food would they make? They started this list today and began β€œcooking.” A. added β€œ21 meatballs” when she made them. Could keeping a list, inspire some reading of foods tomorrow?

I loved this coding idea that Jennifer Angle shared today. Could this be a way to link coding with reading and writing, even the reading and writing of some of the #UFLI lessons taught. Hmmm … Thanks for the inspiration, Jenn!
