On my way to help and support the #AJEX Remembrance Parade. It started in the 1930’s by veterans to demonstrate that there had been 45,000+ Jews in the British Military in WW1 with many still serving. They wanted to remember all the fallen and combat rising antisemitism.

During WW2 a further 70,000 Jewish men and women served in the British military this is all from a small minority community, who often faced prejudice to serve but did it anyway. With each generation’s commitment and sacrifice they believed they were helping to create a better &

more equal world for everyone. With antisemitism and hate back on the streets in the 21st century the #Remembrance Parade is an important reminder that British and Jewish life are entwined. Jews are not ‘others’ they are part of the UK.

Remembrance time is about respecting the fallen and those who have had their lives changed by war and it is also a time to remember that they we’re fighting for a better world, free from tyranny for all of us. Today I will remember all of their sacrifices for all our freedoms

Our Board of Deputies President, Marie van der Zyl, was honoured to lay a wreath at the Cenotaph during today's AJEX parade, in memory of all the members of the Board of Deputies and its affiliated communities & organisations who served in the two World Wars. May their memories be blessed.

Congratulations to Dr Helen Fry | WWII Historian for receiving a “Life Time Achievement Award” for her excellent History books. Later she laid a wreath at the Cenotaph to Thomas Kendrick and his team in Vienna that helped Jews escape Nazis persecution AJEX
