The government is still unable to explain why this is necessary. It hasn't explained to anyone what the threat to Diego Garcia is supposed to be. It hasn't explained what anyone except Mauritius is gaining from this. It still refuses to meet Chagossians to explain the sell-out.

Wonderful clarity from Royal Bank of Canada describing the absurdity and nihilism of Britain's policies of deliberately destroying the North Sea oil and gas economy. Why are we doing this to ourselves? rbcbluebay.com/en-gb/institut…

🎉 The Chagos Islands Parliamentary petition has surpassed 10,000 signatures. Every single constituency in the UK has now signed this petition. The UK Government must rethink this disastrous deal. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/7027…

I do believe quite a bit of this stems from institutions employing academics with no interest in critical thought or debate, just exploiting academia for the purposes of activism. In general, I don’t consider these people scholars.

Suggesting that a carrier deployment has inertia when land based airfields are static and the task group’s ships can alter course by 180 degrees in around six minutes is a level of chutzpah that I only aspire to.

For the total cost of the Chagos ‘deal’, the government could provide an additional £1,183 in funding per child in English state education.

As a minor detail, contrary to the statement below, in air ops at sea one does not always recover with sufficient fuel to divert to an alternate. I’ve seen the contrary planned and executed often. At sea if the local weather is poor one can move the air base, unlike on land.
