Recently, the ANDIV team joined the 20th anniversary ABERG meeting, discussing biodiversity on a tropical elevational gradient and the severe impacts of climate change. Justin Catanoso greatly summarized our thoughts, ideas and conclusions: news.mongabay.com/2023/07/what-w…

Our third (and final!) field season in Peru has started! We already finished sampling the mid-elevations, now continuing in the lowlands and afterwards the high Andes. Let's hope for lots of amazing bugs! 🪲🦟🐝🦋

New addition for this season: studying the overwhelming diversity of #Diptera (Brachycera) and their thermal tolerances along our tropical elevational gradient with Antonia Abels!

Elevational gradient fieldwork is exciting! For ANDIV we are moving back and forth between very hot rainforest and very cold Puna - sometimes within a day! This allows us to study the effect of climate without the need of a laboratory or extensive traveling along latitudes

Finished the last insect sampling session at our highest station at over 3600 m elevation ANDIV! I will definitely miss the views - What an incredible landscape with incredible organisms, such as the high-elevation tarantulas (Hapalotremus sp.)

20 years of extensive research from ABERG along the elevational gradient, where we now investigate insect diversity, produced highly important results - with trees shifting upslope due to climate change other organisms are also likely to be impacted.

12 months of fieldwork of the ANDIV project are successfully completed 🎉 We have lots of exciting data to process... insect samples, camera traps, thermal tolerance data, bioacoustics and climate data... New year - new chapter, from the field to the lab (and office)!

We are hiring! Looking for a postdoctoral researcher in ecoacoustic, to explore what soundscapes can (and can't) tell us about ecological health and function

After several years of working with them, I still find the #sphingids beautiful and very fascinating. Here are some #hawkmoths from #Peru, collected as part of the ANDIV sampling project, and deposited in the Phyletic Museum in Jena, Germany.

All insect samples (almost 10,000!) collected along the tropical gradient ANDIV in Peru within a year of intense fieldwork are now on their way to the genetic lab for DNA #barcoding. Probably many of our samples will be new to the database. I'm very excited for the results!
