New: we've obtained the code the FBI used to backdoor an encrypted messaging app, and we're publishing parts of it today. Code shows app created a 'ghost' contact that hid itself from users contact lists and silently received every message. More findings: vice.com/en/article/v7v…

I've been looking for binary number plates on my visits to Greece for a while now, and I've finally found one. (I know, it's actually three uppercase omicrons followed by two ones then a zero...) Assuming plates are issued in order, then someone is the proud owner of "ΟΟΟ1".

Interesting article from Arvind Narayanan which teases apart information propagation in online social media platforms. I particularly liked the long view, with an historic tour through subscription, network and algorithmic approaches. Well worth a read. knightcolumbia.org/content/unders…

Artifact evaluation is cool, but tricky if your project includes a hardware prototype.. Luckily the chairs arranged a way for us to demonstrate it in a virtual session. To be published at USENIX soon :) #poweringprivacy #beingthespecialcase

Scammers persuade ad firm they are talking with a BBC presenter. The firm then pays the scammers a fee to use the presenter’s likeness to promote a product. The presenter is (not unreasonably) upset, the ad company apologetic, and the scammers 20k richer. theguardian.com/technology/202…
