Non-animal alternatives are not yet ready to replace #AnimalResearch. Yet animal rights groups continue to claim over 95% of animal studies fail in clinical trials.... so as scientists, how do we respond??? 🤔 #AcademicChatter #phdchat #phdvoice

95% of the animals in medical research are rats and mice. ½ of 1% are primates. That’s a tiny number. But the impact on our health is enormous. Responsible primate research has led to historic medical breakthroughs that have saved millions of people.

I’m fortunate to be spending the weekend with a very experienced human rights lawyer who outlined how vaccine requirements in schools and other institutions do not infringe on human rights but actually enable those who are vulnerable to participate fully/be included.

As the title suggests and the paper evidences, openness about animal research increases public support. This is a great finding for scientists and others to bear in mind. Anna Mitchell🐒🐀🧠👩🏻‍🔬 doi.org/10.1038/s41593…

I train these clever creatures to save victims trapped in collapsed buildings after earthquakes. We kit them out with a rat backpack, and train them to trigger a switch when they find a victim & come back for a tasty treat 🐀 #herosnotpests #science #weirdjobs #WomenInSTEM

Canada has among the highest rates of MS in the world. The @MSSocietyCanada does amazing work helping people living with MS, as well as their caregivers. They also fund much of the research looking for a cure. I know where I’ll be eating next Thursday!
