Integrated for the 1st time a PhD examination committee at UiO. To my surprised I saw my colleague Øystein Langangen, the committee chair, be transformed into Harry Potter! ☺ Thanks to Josefin Titelman for the invitation and guidance throughout the process!

Visa application for work: Go to Paris (no office in Norway) for 15' appt. Wait for the result back home. Back to Paris to give the passport, wait for ~15 days to get passport back (can'tgo back to Norway w/o passport). Noticed the costs? Visas are strong barriers in science too.

🚨 Corals and macroalgae have a longlasting love-hate story 💘 New paper from Kelly Y. Inagaki (she/her) PhD Pós Graduação em Ecologia - UFRN with Guilherme O. Longo unravels global patterns and future directions to understand these interactions in a changing world 🌎 Check it out 👇 doi.org/10.1007/s00338…

Exciting to see our Arctic winter-3-stressors experiment published in Ecology and Evolution. Who dares to go to the Arctic in the mid-winter for such an interesting, unique but important experiment? Millions of thanks Daniela Farnese and all co-authors to make it happen!

Living this situation at moment. Risking not join a field work in August because I have no answer of a visa I have applied months ago...😖😖

A new publication for our lab on combining citizen science and eDNA in marine monitoring and conservation. Congrats to Lone Kvalheim and Eivind Stensrud on their first scientific publication onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ed…

This study casts light on forested stream food webs in the tropics - the figure below references the trivariate approach first described by Cohen et al. (2003) for Tuesday Lake: the food web, average body sizes (here trophic level), and numerical abundance besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/13…

"it's very hard to interpret big data in ecology in meaningful ways if you do not know anything about who the organisms are and what they do in the environment." Very good piece...

A popular science piece on Jesper’s master’s thesis. Fish feces as a potential marine carbon pump. Interesting project in our lab on the marine food web. titan.uio.no/naturvitenskap…

Last week, after months of hard work and lots of conversations, Science Magazine launched a new series—spearheaded by News from Science's Elizabeth Culotta, Shraddha Chakradhar and me—about how researchers are #decolonizing science. science.org/toc/science/38…

What a privilege we have at UiO (students included!) to be able to use the R/V Trygve Braarud for courses! Two sunny days of field cruise complete for Marine Biology class 2024! Thanks to Khuong Dinh and the crew members (Sindre, Jakob and Daniel) for the incredible support!
