Today we delivered our petition to @IPSONews demanding stricter rules on reporting domestic abuse deaths. Joined by Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse women who had lost mothers, sisters & daughters to domestic abuse killings & Dawn Butler ✊🏾💙, our message is clear: #DignityforDeadWomen.
Today HMCPSI have published their report into the Crown Prosecution Service handling of domestic abuse cases. This review has highlighted some worrying trends and considerable areas for improvement which can’t be ignored. Congratulations to the family of Kellie Sutton who we have been working with for many years. Their resilience & tenacity plus the work of Sophie Naftalin has led to the right Inquest conclusion. AAFDA works with hundreds of families bereaved by suicide where DA was in the history
Like many we have unprecedented referral no.s & funding doesn't match. Families desperately need specialist advocacy & peer support. On #WorldMentalHealthDay2023 let's remove stigma. My brother took his own life in 2001 partly because of stigma. Let's be unafraid to share mental health difficulties.
