🚨I've seen enough 🚨 Zohran Mamdani has won the Democratic Primary for NYC Mayor, defeating Andrew Cuomo. We are witnessing political history before our eyes.

All those politicians/leaders/orgs that sold their souls to Cuomo with transactional endorsement deals -- they got absolutely nothing for it and now they don't have souls!

We should be clear how massive an upset this is. Cuomo had every advantage in the book: he had name recognition (he & his family have been NY fixtures for five decades), he had money ($28 million vs. $8 million for Mamdani) he had the media echoing his talking points (NY Post, NY

So next up it's time for Brad Lander to continue his lifetime of beautiful, principled public service by taking out Dan Goldman, right? Brad has Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair written all over him.

Zohran crushed it in the most Jewish city in the United States (and his numbers will be even better after RCV from Lander). You don't do that without doing *quite* well with Jewish voters. Suck it, AIPAC -- you don't represent our people.

A lot has been said about Dems liking Zohran because he can fight, and there's truth to that, but I think a larger point is that Zohran is nice, and he represents a warmer, less hostile politics that Americans want right now. Zohran is the opposite of Donald Trump: he's kind.

It's true that Zohran is an amazing talent and ran an amazing campaign. But I think it's ALSO true that we're seeing structural dynamics within the Dem electorate that every young progressive thinking of primarying their old hack rep should count as a point towards going for it.

If I were an incumbent Democratic elected official with a primary in the next two years, I would look at tonight's election and think to myself, "Oof, okay, gotta do some stuff to show voters I'm not totally worthless" -- and that in and of itself may just save us our democracy.

I genuinely haven't felt this feeling -- total, unalloyed hope -- since general election night 2008. And I was so naive and dumb then! To feel it when I'm this much older and more cynical -- I mean, wow. It's like a drug. A really good drug. Hope, ladies and gentlemen!

Another incontrovertibly true lesson that smart Dem electeds should take from tonight (which is obviously impacted by RCV but I don't think exclusive to it) -- Brad Lander's strategy led to MUCH better results for Lander's career than Jessica Ramos's strategy did for hers.

So proud of Morris Katz. I remember crashing at his place last fall, asking what campaigns he was most excited about. He started talking about this guy Zohran who was about to announce. I was like, uhh, what's his path? And the path Morris described just literally happened.

It also rocks so hard that gross dude Anthony Weiner's gross left-bashing comeback bid crashed and burned into a distant fourth place. God what a night.
