Congrats to Dahee on her new paper from Gammon Lab #UTSW showing Pox A51R proteins regulate microtubule-dependent transport by Kinesin-1 motors! Thanks to Kristen Verhey for the nice collaboration! mdpi.com/1422-0067/25/1…

Yes! I teach an undergrad neuroscience class and many of the old fundamental papers of the field are exactly like this: short, small figures, easy narrative to discern.

A great night celebrating many of the Lab's successes and the end of a fantastic UTSW STARS Program rotation! 🎉 Unfortunately the yellow knight won, but our hats are 50% yellow so... Half-win? 🤔😅

We found many cases of horizontal gene transfer of Dynamin-like genes between host genomes & large dsDNA viruses that replicate in the cytoplasm. (Also see academic.oup.com/mbe/article/40…) TL;DR: Dynamin function is an ancient, likely ongoing battle between host & viral genomes. /5

On the academic job market? UTSW Microbiology is searching!!... Checkout Julie's post for more more info! Bacteriologists encouraged but all welcome 😉

nobody will remember: - your salary - how “busy you were” - how many hours you worked people will remember: - if you had the curse of curves - if you were in the business of misery - you went down swinging

Our preprint exploring bacterial effectors & mammalian immunity is out! I often heard during our last project "Why study moths? Do it in mammals!"... So we did, two even! Huge thanks to everyone who contributed to this story, wouldn't be here without y'all biorxiv.org/cgi/content/sh…

Our (Gammon Lab) manuscript on virus-host interactions & RNF214 is now out in PLOS Pathogens! Perhaps one of the coolest things we found was that RNF214 knockout increased viral infections, without altering IFN-Beta signalling or select ISG expression! journals.plos.org/plospathogens/…

Very proud to have our lab's first work published in Cell Host & Microbe! In this work, we use functional metagenomics to find phage defenses from human and soil microbiomes! Congrats to first author Luis Rodríguez-Rodríguez ! cell.com/cell-host-micr… (1/3)
