We’re celebrating all week for Sir Walter Scott’s birthday on 15 August. Gifts were a frequent occurrence at Abbotsford and in 1822, he was given the Robroyston Chair, said to be made from wood from the house where William Wallace was captured on 3 Aug 1305.

Did you know that the roundels in Abbotsford’s south court once adorned Edinburgh’s Mercat Cross, and were a gifted from portrait painter Henry Raeburn in 1822? We’re celebrating birthdays and gifts all week in the lead-up to Sir Walter Scott’s birthday on 15 August.
