Week 1 completed with the R1/22 recruits. We've only done; Manual handling, legislation, H&S, pumps and primers, hydrant and water supplies, FRS act, main pump, LPP, 13.5m & 10.5m ladder, hose running, squad drills, knots and lines, PT, parade and assessment! R1/22 wk 2. Steep learning curve this week for the recruit with so many new skills still to learn on the yard and in the classroom. Reflection gives the recruits opportunity to pause amidst the chaos, untangle and sort through to their performance. R1/22: Excellent classroom today at Cadover Bridge, Dartmoor, for a pump relay exercise. This allows us to cover a number of topics: Hydraulics, Pumps and Pump operation, Open water working, Wildfire, Communication skills and teamwork. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service John Noblett

Week 2 completed with R1/22 recruits. We've only done, Lifts and Escalators, Railways, Electricity, Hydraulics, Aircraft, Extinguishers and Wildfire alongside, continued development with their practical; open water pumping, restricted and over basement ladders. And it's the end of the Core Skills element for R1/22. A hard week of assessments which also included Salvage. Training Exercise: R1/22 recruits will be carrying out High Rise training at Beckley Point, Plymouth today.
