Let me tell you a story... About a really inspiring woman I had the privilege to work with, Who for decades cared for the poor, the homeless, people with addictions, and #refugees in #Rotherham, the outcasts others wouldn't touch. 1/

She set up Gateway Primary Care which delivers care to these vulnerable marginalized individuals. But it wasn't easy & there were many challenges setting up & keeping the service going. Not your usual GP surgery & she was a nurse operating in a male dominant doctor's world. 2/

But she did it with great courage, resilience, humour and saw the humanity in the people she served. I'm glad many around her recognized what she has done, and she was awarded the #KateGranger award in 2017 in recognition of her compassionate care. 3/

And finally here's Jean McVann receiving her MBE last year for services to the community. She's in her 70s (still young!), still going strong & her team The Gate Surgery continue to care for the vulnerable. Ordinary people can be extraordinary heroes. youtu.be/i1njZKn5wHs /4
