It's a good morning from Crewe, where 47712 is our traction for the next two days as we do a comprehensive tour of the Scottish Lowlands. It's a rather special one for me too, as it's also my 50th railtour! First leg sees a run up the WCML to Glasgow Queen Street...

Glasgow Queen Street, with the push-pull set looking right at home... After just over an hour to stretch our legs and restock on supplies, we head to Lanark, via Anniesland, Queen Street Lower Level and Coatbridge.

A mad scramble during a seven minute photo stop at Lanark sees this attempt of 47711 (in disguise), starring a few leaves from the fauna of Lanark station buffers!

Journey's end... A fantastic first day draws to a close as both the train and passengers disperse to a good night's rest. Tomorrow sees a trip to Tweedbank, Leven, Dunfermline, Alloa and then home to Crewe...

A nice touch from Edinburgh Waverley this morning...thank you, we will enjoy our day! Let's kick off day 2 with a run to Tweedbank before taking the Suburban round to the Fife Lines and onwards to Leven!

Tweedbank ✅ First stop reached, with a 25-minute leg stretch before heading back up towards Edinburgh, where we take a left and bypass the city via the Suburban line!

Leven ✅ Another terminus complete and my first visit to Leven. Now, around the Fife Circle via Kirkcaldy to Dunfermline City, where we break for an hour before the long run home via Alloa, Mossend and the WCML.

After a pleasant hour exploring Dunfermline, we headed over the line to Stirling, much to the bemusement of the locals, from where we turned south. Now racing along the WCML, there's some time to reflect on what has been an excellent couple of days as we head back to Crewe.

A bit of classic Crompton action for this Friday evening... One week ago today, 33207 + 33029 are seen passing through Stafford on a Carnforth - London Euston ECS move.

Today's adventure starts where many good adventures start from...platform 5 of Manchester Oxford Road! It will be a Northern/Merseyrail/TfW themed day today as I explore the North West, ticking off plenty of required track in the process!

Very sad news from last night, thoughts with all those involved and the family of the deceased person. Unfortunately, it appears all the armchair experts and speculators and are already out in force 🙄 just let the RAIB do what they do best for goodness sake!

Ormskirk taking the North-South divide rather seriously... On another note, an ideal candidate for extending Merseyrail to Preston using the battery capabilities of the new 777s (once they get them working initially!)

With @Flying_Vixen at the helm, 66128 makes a spirited departure from Deansgate on 4L56 yesterday, having awaited a path to be cleared through the busy Castlefield Corridor, en-route to London Gateway!

Finishing the day with a little unusual track, platform 4 at Beckenham Junction, from where we'll travel non-stop to London Victoria!

A slight deviation from the national network for a brief foray to Watford, ticking off the north curve in daylight hours thanks to engineering work on the Metropolitan Line. Here, services stand, awaiting departure to Chesham and Northwood respectively...

Despite the usual gala timetable woes, it was a cracking day out on the East Lancashire Railway to celebrate the workshorses that are DMUs (with a few non-DMUs thrown in for good measure!)
