i have a job because Black people are being systematically killed. My “career” was kickstarted by a Black man being murdered in a public spectacle. There isn’t a way to reconcile that for myself and it’s a problem that most people in this “industry” will never have to recognize.

Nearly a week after one of the largest jailbreaks in US history, five inmates remain on the lam, some likely still in NOLA. Entrenched mistrust in law enforcement and the criminal justice system in the city could complicate this search: apnews.com/article/new-or… W/ Jim Mustian

Before hurricane season/extreme heat season (the deadliest weather months), I've already written about 4 separate weather events this year that have disproportionately impacted Black folks and killed more than 100 people. Weather-related deaths are up 90% since the 1980s.

Spent the morning in the Lower 9 with a community group that does inside-outside gardening with people incarcerated in Louisiana. Incarcerated people envision their plot & volunteers grow them in their vision. Once people are released, they join in on the process/physical space.

Louisiana is 90-95% gas, coal, and nuclear. And they had rolling blackouts today. Those plants need maintenance. They can't run all the time and sometimes they break. Solar & storage would have helped. A lot. Hoping everyone in NOLA is ok.

There are two people who escaped from the New Orleans jail still on the run. One witnessed his father get shot and killed as a child. The other’s grandmother was murdered on orders from a New Orleans cop that terrorized Black folks in the city.
