Here we use a combination of approaches (#SDM #acoustictelemetry #SIA) to demonstrate that longline mussel farming can physically augment and improve seabed habitat to support commercially important crustacean populations in otherwise unsuitable habitat. 3/3

Thrilled that IMCC7 is happening for the first time on African soil, in my hometown #CapeTown! Next week will be packed with marine conservation science, learning & collaboration. Excited to present on #marineprotectedareas & share #talesofthesea stories on Thursday night!

When presenting my PhD research on potting impacts I often get asked ‘how did you persuade the fishers?’ Or similar. 1. Good, open dialogue 2. Financial incentive. Pots were kept by fishers at the end of project Nice to see they are still being put to good use in West Bay 😂🎄

So many of the pink sea fans we find washed up have marine debris snagged on them. A soft coral, pink sea fans are nationally protected. This one has rope and bungee cord tangled up in it. As they only grow 1cm a year, this one is probably some 30 years old.
