Had a stellar time hanging out + working with fellow ECRs at the OzGrav Winter School 😄 It was great to have the opportunity to run a workshop, but also learn about incredible instrumentation work done in Australia Looking forward to seeing you all at the annual retreat!

Across Aust its estimated weed control costs over $6billion pa. We need new/sustainable management options like LASERS! Here’s Peter Veitch & Zac testing a laser weedkill system An exciting collab between OzGrav Adelaide Waite Research Institute @austplantphenom Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology OzGrav

We had a great time at Australian Plant Phenomics Network trialling our laser on a few different weed species! The best part about lasers for weed control - they’re organic! Our work is an OzGrav initiative to translate my research of lasers for future gravitational wave detectors.

✴️FRICKIN' LASERs in action! In the quest for non-chemical weed control LASERs are a serious weed-zapping contender. This week, Zac Holmes & Peter Veitch did their 2nd LASER weeding test in the TPA Smarthouse as part of their Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology Roadmap grant Zac OzGrav

The beautiful glow of 790 nm in our fibre amplifiers. Lab lights are off and I see nothing with my own eyes. Thank you iPad!

On Friday, OzGrav spread the good word about Gravitational Waves and careers in Physics at the Department for Education SA’s Student Pathways expo. Hopefully we captured the imaginations of a few budding physicists!

Zac (Zac) finished making the first of 3 2-micron-laser amplifers to deliver to CGA@ANU for exciting research in next gen GW detector squeezing and coating thermal noise. The beautiful pink glow is the 790nm pump light that's invisible to human eyes. #science #laser #gw
