Day two of ARM saw a speech from NIC chair @alanstout17 outlining the dire state of healthcare across Northern Ireland and urging the Health Minister to move now to make this years pay award #ARM2025

I’d love more detail on why. We know a lot go privately due to the length of wait but never actually come off the NHS w/l (despite often trying to). This inflates numbers and ultimately increases waits

One thing that stuck me today was the lack of budget for proper health promotion and education. Given this void, never underestimate that reporting like this quite literally can save lives

I’m delighted my colleagues have received their backpay for 23/24/25 pay uplift. Unfortunately many of my GPST3 colleagues have told me they’ll be using the lump sum to pay their indemnity when they CCT. I was quoted Ā£5200 for 8 sessions. Blessed I get to pay to go to work šŸ™šŸ»

Solutions abound, just need funded, extended and supported Examples are hospital at home, intermediate care and proactive nursing home care All reach capacity and the limit of their funding quickly If we want people and care out of hospital we need staff and resource there too

From our Scottish colleagues. Massive pressure and similar challenges. I’m willing to bet that their cabinet secretary doesn’t describe investment in GP as a ā€˜sumptuous three course meal’

Agree, September is far too late. There are easy actions that aren’t being addressed. They don’t completely solve the problem but will make a massive difference to individuals and to the system

When there is such a disconnect between the workforce what actually happens and those that make decisions then we have major problem. When it involves fundamental access to healthcare then we are all in real trouble

I instinctively don’t like this We hear lots of dialogue about crises, culture and behaviour, but little about solutions and change We have big culture issues. We are missing open spaces, freedom to speak up and safety guardians It concerns me that individuals are targeted

A proper good news story. Campaigned heavily for many years through BMA Northern Ireland and delighted to see the first cohort graduate. Let’s make absolutely sure we keep them here as a vital part of our future workforce

Wow, that’s a statement if ever there was one! Bearing in mind that GPs are a very heterogenous group, for our Minister to unify them all in such a manner is an astounding achievement. Ball now firmly in his court.

I’m not sure an entire profession can shout any louder about the crisis and the harm that they see in front of them. This is about basic access, staffing, safety and effective care. It’s not offensive sound bites about ā€˜sumptuous 3 course meals’

GP Crisis in Northern Ireland This has led to 98.7% vote by GP Partners for collective action The ask was not big but the NI Government have been deaf to the cries for support

I’ll exercise my duty of candour and say that this will completely collapse our NHS We absolutely need culture change, we need freedom to speak up, safety guardians, and an open and learning culture This does the opposite, will cause fear and protection and untold lasting harm
