I photographed this dor beetle (Geotrupes stercorarius), in Glen Affric today. It's a dung beetle, & therefore one of Nature's garbage collectors - females roll animal dung into their burrows as provision for their larvae to feed on as they develop.

These are pea galls that have been induced by tiny wasps (Cynips divisa) on the underside of some leaves on an oak tree (Quercus petraea) in Glen Affric today. The wasps stimulate the tree to produce this abnormal growth, inside which the wasp larvae feed, safe from predators.
