It's a perfect time to listen for calling owls while enjoying an evening stroll through a forest. Great horned owls can be heard throughout the province, boreal owls are calling in the mountains and boreal regions, and northern saw-whets should be singing in the aspen parkland.

The delightful blooms of the prairie crocus appear in many of our southern Alberta parks as soon as the snow melts. Further north, they may be spotted on warm, south-facing slopes.

Our provincial parks and protected areas are no drone zones! Although drones can capture unique footage, it’s illegal to fly them without a permit. Their noise can disturb wildlife and disrupt the peace that people seek in nature.

Spring in Alberta can mean t-shirt weather, snow squalls or rain - sometimes all in the same day! Make sure you pack layers and the right gear to keep you prepared for any weather before you head out.
