🎥 It was a pleasure to speak with Alberto J Espay of University of Cincinnati at #AANAM to learn about the αSyn-SAA test, which detects pathological α-synuclein in the CSF of patients with #Parkinsons by harnessing the physics of seeding in the lab. Watch here: 👉 ow.ly/6rp550VHb29

Dementia with Lewy bodies patients with low CSF Aβ42 levels decline cognitively at a faster rate than those with high Aβ42, independent of APOE4 status. The loss of Aβ42 is relevant across neurodegenerative disorders, beyond Alzheimer's disease. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.10…

I am honored to deliver the Weiner Family Memorial Lecture this Wednesday at Univ. of Maryland, in memory of Prof. Bill Weiner, a visionary who challenged dogma in Parkinson’s research. His bold 2008 paper said it first: "There is no single Parkinson disease." jamanetwork.com/journals/jaman…

I am excited to visit Cornell University tomorrow to learn from Jacqueline Burré and Manu Sharma, whose labs are blazing new trails on α-synuclein in neurodegeneration. Their 2023 paper is already a classic. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Functional neurological disorder (#FND) remains a research orphan NIH. FND is among the costliest and least funded sources of neurological disability. The latest NIH review cycle was no exception: zero FND-based grants were funded. neurology.org/doi/abs/10.121…

No real ‘biological-clinical alignment’ in #Alzheimers. Only 37.7% of BioFINDER-2 participants matched stages. How hard is it to say, 'biological' staging poorly predicts clinical disease, rather than blaming 'copathologies' for the discrepancy? jamanetwork.com/journals/jaman…

We thank Outeiro for the open dialogue on interpreting the α-synuclein seed amplification assay (αSyn-SAA) in #Parkinsons. We agree on many things. Our main contention: pathology is not a measure of pathogenesis or risk. αSyn-SAA is no 'brain cholesterol' sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
