In the comparison of diets, almost the entire increase in microplastics with the vegetarian diet comes from fruit when compared to the Mediterranean diet, but the sample food pyramids show nearly equivalent daily fruit servings. This is either a ridiculous mathematical error or

A lot of people don’t realize that clinical language defines specific, persistent patterns that operate outside conscious control. When pop-psychology borrows these terms to describe ordinary personality clashes or preferences, we’re basically eliminating the distinction between

Editor's note: Most research on red and near-infrared light therapy is conducted in metabolically unhealthy individuals and/or areas of tissue damage, and it overwhelmingly shows benefit. This is just an attempt to sound profound over a thick layer of ignorance. You can

I was talking to Briana about her boomer post, and we started wondering why many boomers have this mindset where they basically take pride in watching their children suffer (thankfully, not something we've experienced with our parents). Like, why? There's a few things at play,

This is actually a great example of bad epidemiology. Let's go through it! (1) The researchers took a subset (n=392) of 70 year-olds in Sweden and followed them for ~18 years. The biggest issue here is that those who reached 70 years already represent survivors of earlier

Thanks Jimmy. Things are a little more complex with MR studies than you are suggesting. Drug-target MR is useful for hypothesis generation, but here it mixes lifelong genetics with a proxy cognition phenotype and then leaps to drug claims. This simply isn't appropriate.

These are the kinds of talking points that really hurt the credibility of the carnivore movement. The only way someone could honestly believe that plants are poisonous to humans is by having no understanding of human biology or nutrition research. Yes, plants make compounds

Editor's note: This is a myth that has been addressed in clinical trials (PMID: 24615309). Even if lactase is present, it is not enough to have a meaningful biological effect.

You can't seriously criticize them for blaming one macronutrient and then turn around and blame a different one. Peak ridiculousness.

Yes. And I'm still annoyed that AI so frequently uses em dashes, which are one of my favorite literary techniques. Now people just assume good writing is AI and look to silly ques like that.

Editor's note: Veronica is just making shit up, per the usual. Can't quote because I'm blocked. A cursory search of PubMed shows that inhaling CO2 for just 15-20 minutes (7.5% concentration) increases heart rate and blood pressure, as well as ratings of anxiety and fear and

If someone is insulin resistant, then by definition their tissue isn't responding to insulin's signal. The increased insulin levels are a compensatory response. Best way to reverse all of this is to create a cellular energy deficit via eating less or exercising more.

People like to believe they’re immune to their environment. They’re not. No one rises in a vacuum. Greatness compounds when it’s surrounded by other greatness… people who challenge you, sharpen you, and force you to level up. On the flip side, it doesn’t take much to derail

A lot of self-proclaimed "evidence-based" people fall for this too. I mean, just look at the categories they group together as pseudoscience. Immune boosting, toxins, and detox are all legitimate areas of scientific study. Probably a lot of stuff they put under "wellness woo"

Alex reminded me this morning that nothing is ever really wasted if you learn something from it. I was annoyed at first (I’m going through it rn), but he’s right. None of this was wasted because I’ve learned so much about myself… and us. So I keep reminding myself of that when

This is a common talking point those against energy balance model of obesity make, but it fundamentally confuses measurement with mechanism. An odometer records distance but doesn’t determine how far you drive. It's a readout. Calories are inputs that affect the system itself.

Nick’s doubling down on the same mistake: confusing mechanism with measurement. CICO doesn’t explain why biology adapts, it describes the energetic outcome of those adaptations. If you overeat and your body compensates by increasing expenditure, that’s not a refutation of
