This book slaps. I let out an audible cheer for camels today on my run for trans-Saharan salt schlepping. Good on them. Someone should pitch Asimov Press on something salt-related. Think halophilic enzyme discovery or high-salinity crops.

Issue 7 line up is absolutely killer - fermentation, medical myth-breaking, leeches, and human waste. What is not to love? Also, join Asimov Press on the 23rd in SF for our launch party trivia night!

First, Bryan Caplan came for our cars (windshields bad), and now the mushrooms are marred by exploited hogs. Worried I won't have anything left to eat by the time we are done hashing stuff out in the vegan group chat.

Opening issue 7 with our most deeply researched piece yet on the history of aspirin. Author Sean Harrison went to great lengths to dig through the archives, order original sources, and translate them. He took no author at their word, and no source at face value. Amazing piece!

"Co-evolution, real. Shapes? Not so much" Sean on the "doctrine of signatures," or the belief that the appearance of a plant (or other natural substance) reveals its medicinal properties.

So proud of my buddy Tom Ough! I like to think that his experience being edited by Asimov Press gave him the chutzpah he needed to write a whole book. Really, it was an honor to cowork a bit while he wrote it and do pushups together on the hour. You can feel the energy in text!

Fantastic piece from SLIME MOLD TIME MOLD on what legitimizes any given scientific field. When anything can be called a "mechanism," how do we know what is real?! From why humans like abstract video games to what hobbles psychology, this piece is filled with delights!

The Asimov Press issue launch party was a blast. Thanks to everyone who came out and played trivia with us. Best question that wasn't a question was Niko McCarty.'s "No, really, Gregor Mendel smoked 20 cigars a day. And they exhumed his body and found he had epilepsy. No cap."

It would be remiss if I did not mention, casually (but earnestly) how wonderful it is to pair a cayenne cleanse kombucha with a specialty blueberry cobbler flavored oreo. Do with that what you must.
