Top level risks now in Oz - Aged Care - non quarantined essential interstate travel eg trucks, flight crew - ICEG - the non diverse group who make PPE rules that make no sense to those of us on frontline - HCW are exposed unnecessarily & the whole system put in jeopardy

Norman Swan Australia could have been in a similar position. Epidemiologists would recommend elimination not a suppression strategy (whatever that is). We were initially fortunate despite government inaction & "claytons" lock-downs but Victoria is a legacy of a failed suppression strategy.

Not only does infectious disease literature seem unaware of aerosol calculations, they seem unaware of the size of fog and cloud droplets, pollen, dust, and many other common aerosol particles that are often >>5 microns. Epic thread by Prof. Jose-Luis Jimenez 👇

‼️Oh my goodness ‼️journalist asked deputy CHO Professor Allen Cheng Allen Cheng to talk about #aerosol spread of #COVID19vic He did not answer & deferred question to Professor Andrew Wilson ❌My comment : this is unacceptable- deputy CHO is an #infectious diseases doc, Professor

This is Prof John Ferguson, member of ICEG, the peak Australian infection control advisory body. He thinks people trying to 'sell airborne transmission' are 'miasma theorists and activists'. We have over 3000 HCWs infected. Um, Houston, we, er, have a problem. 1/9

1/ Victorian lockdowns continue largely because #covid19aus transmission persists in health/aged care. Excluding these, our 14 day avg daily cases = 2.9 If only we knew these settings were drivers of transmission, we'd have upgraded infection control. Oh wait. We knew in April.

❗️Coughing recognised as aerosol-generating behaviour ❗️CPR recognised as aerosol generating procedure @VicGovDHHS #PPE guideline Thank you Professor Andrew Wilson National #PPE ICEG guidance now must follow - please stop arguing & start protecting all dhhs.vic.gov.au/personal-prote…

This ‘not being involved in infection control for very long’ argument that is used multiple times falls flat when it’s experts (who are less dogmatic - and yes perhaps more flexible in their thinking precisely because they have not been ‘involved for very long) Prof Peter Collignon

@teamhendra Prof Peter Collignon You can't keep repeating the #dropletdogma myth re. close contact without addressing this obvious flaw. Physics and Math tells us it's almost certainly aerosol transmission at short range.
