Those "smart people" pick other fields because the learning curve to really understand how to model biology is very steep. It is extremely rare that someone can "engineer" their way to make serious progress on most problems in biology as compared to other applied domains.

Wrote my first review on the ResearchHub. Not sure if it will be paid, but we’ll see!) The review submission form is acting up a bit, hopefully it will be fixed at some point. And looking forward to the next generation of peer review process, it’s certainly about time!
