Frans de Waal was an inspriational scientist. As an undergraduate Nicola Clayton gave me a copy of Chimpanzee Politics to read and we spotted similar behaviours in the rook colony. When I met Frans he was so enthusiastic to learn about rooks consoling one another. A great loss.
