"It appears the term ‘paper mill’ may fail to fully capture the diversity and scale of activities overseen by these hydra-like conglomerates." Important and, frankly, scary post by Reese Richardson et al. from Amaral Lab retractionwatch.com/2024/10/01/hid…

Y'day I said that 'Cureus ‘academic channels’ appear purpose-built to be abused by papermills'. Today, Reese Richardson and Amaral Lab report that a papermill published 131 papers in its own Cureus channel from Feb 23 to Sep 24. retractionwatch.com/2024/09/30/web… retractionwatch.com/2024/10/01/hid…

In this piece, our own Reese Richardson, spencer hong (he/his) and end colonialism and exploitation✊🏽✊🏿✊🏾🌈 construct an ego network around one shady business and uncover a massive hydra. Check it out at the link below!

Often find myself thinking of this great paper by Amaral Lab back in 2018 on why most of the genome is ignored journals.plos.org/plosbiology/ar… And came across this gem from last year on 'unknowmics' by Sean Munro MRC-LMB Cell Biology x.com/MRC_LMB/status…

"Science Magazine and Retraction Watch’s investigation suggests authors, journals, and institutions all benefit from the scheme, which floods the literature with poor-quality publications and casts doubt on metrics of scholarly output and impact." science.org/content/articl…
