language changes across space and time & so does it’s impact. the insistence of ppl to ask for hard evidence of [insert harm] when ppl express it in informally should warrant the question - what actually NEEDS to be a paper? and why do we have to wait to be reactive to move? 1/n

As one of the original members of the #BlackBirdersWeek team, here's my 2 cents on why the movement and creating safe spaces for #BlackJoy in nature is so important. Centering my culture in birding is one of the many ways I fight for Black liberation. I want to be #FreeAsABird

Happy #WorldRainforestDay! Rainforests are the most biodiverse ecosystems on land, help regulate the world’s climate & are home to millions of people. I feel lucky that I’ve been able to work in three: the Amazon rainforest, Tongass National Forest & El Yunque National Forest.

On our way to Galax, the #MAAV team made a pit stop at one of the former Rosenwald schools. One of almost 5000 schools built in the early 1900s, this was part of a huge, community-driven effort to provide African American students with education during the era of segregation.
