Today we welcomed Probationary Firefighters Tracy and Lussier. They begin orientation with us, while also enrolled in Paramedic school. These staff fill two existing vacancies.

Today we swore-in Stephen Gaughan to the rank of Assistant Chief, and Ben Graham to the rank of Captain. Gaughan will be the Asst. Chief of Operations, Graham will be Capt. of Tour 2 at the Central Station. The event was attended by many current and retired members.

Congratulations to Town of Amherst, MA Firefighter/ Paramedics Brooks and Mueller on their graduation from the Mass Fire Academy today. Proud of the number of off-duty members who took time to attend.

4 years ago a hydrant that had been cleared of snow by a citizen allowed firefighters to quickly access water, and prevent what could have been a much more serious fire involving a propane truck. Be like that citizen, help your neighbors, and clear hydrants near your home.

Thank you to the Amherst DPW for the impressive days worth of work clearing our roads. Their efforts make us all more efficient.

At 0356 this morning units responded to a structure fire on Pondview Dr. Initial arriving units found heavy fire, and a 2nd alarm was struck. Efforts were hampered as the first hydrant was buried in snow, and subsequently found to be frozen. The fire is under investigation.

Fire extinguished overnight by firefighters assigned to Engine 2. Significant ventilation was required as the initial alarm was delayed due to a covered smoke detector.

This week the department deployed 10 new Bullard NXT Pro NFPA compliant thermal imagers. These critical tools contribute to both citizen and firefighter safety. These devices were funded though grants, and legislative funding support secured by Mindy Domb

Last night 12 of our members were recognized for critical EMS actions that contributed to saving lives. We are appreciative of the work they do, not only this week, but every week.

Probationary firefighter Jaren Nobie along with Fire Chief Lindsay Stromgren attended Jaren’s graduation from the NCTI paramedic program this morning at AMR in Springfield. PFF Nobie has already passed his national exam and is AFD’s newest paramedic!!!!
