#CROI2025 Chris Beyrer makes an imp point: There is no HIV PrEP without PEPFAR. This will likely increase global HIV infections.. it’s a net loss situation.

CROI: Good summary of Dr. Beyrer's plenary at #CROI2025 - we have had so many successes in HIV treatment and prevention! The PEPFAR closures (USAID is an implementing partner) will set those back in big way. ajmc.com/view/global-st… via ajmc

#CROI2025 Onyema Ogbuagu presents 26-wk data on every 6month long acting regimen LEN+ monoclonal ab for HIV with 96% suppression! Alas, only ~40% eligible, and some failures with resistance. Not for everyone but prob useful in select cases. Look forward to longer term data .

So the Prasad hit job was two-prong. First there was a political hit, using many outdated clips, some taken out of context, some misleading and mostly irrelevant to his role, certainly not the focus of his career which was 500+ research publications, teaching and medical care.

Agree with John John Mandrola, MD Sad day indeed. My only hope is that this leads to some sort of awakening from both sides. open.substack.com/pub/johnmandro…

A dark shakespearean tragedy 👇 VP, the guy who spoke truth, is banished by both the sides trying to protect their vested interests. Sad for medicine.

To Those who had disagreed with Prasad’s appointment at FDA for any reason, this is your integrity test.. do u really want a world where a scientific officer and adjudicator is removed from service in this way??!!👇

The anal cancer screening guidelines for PWH recommend testing every 1-2 yrs. But the evidence base is thin, the tests are meh, and resources are limited. Here's why guidelines may be racing ahead of the data (and certainly the resources). Amit Achhra, MD PhD MPH blogs.jwatch.org/hiv-id-observa…

Eye of the beholder No difference in overall mortality Massive overdiagnosis-many medicalized for no reason Screen 400+ men to avert 1 prostate ca death over 20+ years Doesn't include QoL harms of biopsies & treatment If honestly presented, many would say no thanks
