Today we were at Buzzard Point training some new friends at Earth Conservation Corps on our sorting process for Bandalong Litter Traps! Our traps capture trash in streams and outfalls before it enters the river, and collect valuable data to help us advocate for policies to fight pollution!

Today we kicked off a major project! We were out at James Creek Marina towing away two abandoned and derelict vessels (ADVs). These are the first of over 30 ADVs we’ll be clearing from the river through a $1M NOAA Marine Debris Program grant in partnership with COG. 2 down, 31 to go!

Last Friday, Trey testified at the Department of Energy & Environment Oversight Hearing. We applaud a lot of DOEE’s great work across the watershed, and call on them to prioritize progress on toxic sediment cleanup, oversight of riverside development projects, expanded laws against plastics, and more.

Yesterday we had our inaugural River Roundtable! With the help of Montgomery County Dept of Environmental Protection & Chesapeake Bay Trust we brought together some of the great figures in trash mitigation techniques in the Anacostia watershed! The Washington Commanders are set to return to the nation’s capital following an agreement between the organization and the District of Columbia to build a new stadium on the site of the old RFK Stadium. fox5dc.com/news/rfk-stadi…

As the next steps are taken with the RFK site, we hope for this new NFL stadium to set the standard for sustainable development and green infrastructure. We look forward to working with Commanders and the District government to ensure the best possible outcome for the river!⁠
