My first op-ed is out! Starting my faculty career was challenging in many ways, and one of those is that I had a leadership job that I didn't expect and wasn't (really) prepared for. Thanks to Inside Higher Ed for the chance to write about this and share some advice!

As the author of this PDF, it's been interesting seeing people guess at the rationale behind its design. However, the rationale had nothing to do with theory vs practice, and everything to do with pragmatically coping with an unaccommodated disability in academia. (1/16)

The Sustainability Symposium was fantastic, and Sara Beery's keynote was truly inspiring. She showed a tool that allows you to use natural language to search the photos in iNaturalist (it uses vision language models under the hood). Demo 👇🏻 inaturalist.org/vision_languag…

One of my kids got a piece of broccoli at a trick while trick or treating. She just took it and said thank you. They called her back to the door for candy. She told me she didn’t want to be rude, because maybe they just really like broccoli.

Here is your regular reminder that student evaluations of teaching are biased and unreliable, and can cause real harm to mental health. Universities need to recognize these evaluations as a psychosocial hazard and stop using them in tenure and promotion decisions. Big thanks to
