Dear COVID researchers, while we can’t seem to come to a consensus on what to call the ancestral strain (vaccine, WA-1, Wu-1, etc). Can we at least agree that it is NOT “wild-type?” All the circulating variants are wild-type. #virology #IDTwitter Stuart Ray William Werbel MD PhD

Great session on antifungals #IDWeek2022. Did not know aspergillosis survival remains ~70% no matter what drug we study. There is work to do. maricar malinis Shmuel Shoham Kieren Marr

Great first talk on Maribavir for R/R CMV by Camille Nelson Kotton. So glad to have this as an option for our patients with this really frustrating virus. 🔑don't forget to use HSV/VZV prophy, watch for DDIs, can't use w/ GCV. @IDWeek2022 maricar malinis @PergamIC

Great talk by Michelle Yong on CMV immunity monitoring, but I wonder why these assays don't work better for all patients? My guess is CMV immunity/control is more complicated than we'd like. Abs? Antigens other than pp65/IE1? Innate immunity? differences in CMV strains? @IDWeek2022

First up in clinical controversies @IDWeek2022: @UWIDFellowship alumni all 💫💫 Olivia Kates, MD and Hannah Imlay debate vaccine mandates in SOT candidates 💉💪🏽

Excited for debate between Hannah Imlay and Olivia Kates, MD on SARS-CoV-2 vaccine requirements for #sot. Expecting the metaphorical gloves to come off! @IDWeek2022

This is a tour-de-force study on HSV-1 genital ifxn by Christine Johnston and colleagues UW Medicine. Lots we still don't know about differences between HSV-1 and HSV-2, but this helps clarify risk of transmission after 1st episode. #herpes #virology #IDtwitter jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/…
