New: The US ordered all embassies in striking distance of Iran (across Mid East and parts of E Europe / N Africa) to convene emergency action committees & send cables back to DC about what measures they are taking to mitigate risks. That led to today's departures for Iraq

Seems like the operative doctrine for Israel now is a region-wide "mowing of the lawn". The GCC should take note - we contended with a real strategic ceiling given US emphasis on maintaining Israeli QME since the 70s. With the events in Iran, it will only get worse now.

Needless to say, the United States should not get involved in Netanyahu's war of choice with Iran save to pressure Israel down the path of diplomacy.

We would not be at this terrifying moment without Biden & his team. Emboldening Netanyahu beyond even Israelis’ expectations (in Gaza + Lebanon), abandoning hopes of a renewed nuclear deal & fracturing their voting coalition, a team that promised stability brought huge danger.

The American public is overwhelmingly opposed to the U.S. waging war on Iran. And the Israeli Foreign Minister admitted yesterday that Israeli bombing had set the Iranian nuclear program back “at least 2 or 3 years.” So what made Trump recklessly decide to rush and bomb today?

Max Fisher (@max_fisher) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Of course it was. These are just buildings. You can’t bomb away a technological capability. All this does is convince Iran it needs the nuclear deterrent it’s always been capable of acquiring.

For all of the talk of a redux of 2003, the real challenge to preventing or "restraining" something like these strikes is that there was never an effective coalition against a no-boots-on-the-ground GWOT approach to US foreign policy.
