Ever wanted an interactive lightning-fast solver for models in physics, chemistry, or biology? Do you have a web browser? I'm thrilled to announce VIsualPDE.com, built explicitly to solve PDE models interactively on most devices, written by Benjamin Walker Adam Townsend and I.

So you just used a fancy deep-learning method (e.g., U-Net) to segment your cells. Do you trust your results? Should theorists model your data? Beware of “What You Put Is What You Get (WYPIWYG).” Your results will reflect your bias in your training dataset. Short thread. 1/

Our latest paper engineering bacterial swarm patterns as biosensor readouts is out in Nature Chemical Biology! Led by @anjalidoshi16, Marian Shaw, collaborating w/ Andrew Laine, Jia Guo, we encode inputs like copper in visible patterns & decode w/ AI. Congrats all! nature.com/articles/s4158…

Having a lovely time at #SEED2023—from talks on ELMs to a gentle critique of publishing sequences in supp PDFs (totally guilty of this!). excited for the poster session today—find me at poster 44B to hear how we’ve moved our engineered pattern-readout system towards application!

Katherine Kiwi giving an impromptu slideless/noteless talk after her slides won't load with super high energy and excitement is the most impressive talk I've ever seen tbh #SEED2023 gonna check out her papers now scholar.google.com/citations?user…

Day 13 of great synthetic biology papers. "A synchronized quorum of genetic clocks," by Danino T. et al. (2010). The life of a cell is turbulent chaos. An E. coli divides every 20 minutes. And still, this paper synchronized a molecular clock amongst thousands of cells. *******
