At the root of our polarization problem is a deficit of intellectual humility. Too many people refuse to admit that they might be wrong. Diversity of thought opens minds. Intensity of conviction closes them. Knowing your knowledge is incomplete is a prerequisite for learning.

Burnout is not a mental illness. Burnout is a chronic occupational psychological injury. Burnout therefore is a workplace safety issue. Unless we consider burnout an issue of workplace safety, we will never move from individual resilience focus to workplace solutions.

The loudest voices rarely represent the majority. They're usually speaking for the extremes. You won't understand the views of a group until you've invited the quieter voices into the discussion. Don't mistake silence for disengagement. It's often a sign of deep reflection.

Make life easier for nurses #2 If you admit an average of 6 patients every day from AMU to Cardiology, make the first 4 routine. Have planned transfers every day at 8am, 10, 12 and 2pm without any bed meetings. Only bed manage the last third of ward transfers each day. #RCEMcpd

A strong message here is that we should not be normalising bad care. It's the wrong question to ask how we improve care on corridors or ambulances, we should just stop doing it. It's bad care and leads to death and increased morbidity. #rcemCPD
