Many thanks to Lord Aberdare for raising the need for ITPs to be represented within Skills England in the House of Lords. ITPs deliver the majority of work-based learning, including 2 in 3 apprenticeships - they are a critical piece of the skills landscape! AELP #SkillsEngland

T levels are an important part of the qualification mix but they are not always going to be a suitable substitute for existing qualifications. David Hughes CBE SFCA

We welcome the decision to pause and then review plans to defund qualifications at Level 3 and below, collectively called for by AELP and the other main sector representatives bodies.

It is vital we have the staff in colleges to train people for the skills this country needs. We need equal pay for post 16 staff whatever the setting in which they teach. Association of Colleges (AoC) David Hughes CBE

Pepe ASCL is right - two easy steps to help achieve the economic growth we desperately need: - #protectstudentchoice - Increase college teacher pay

Paid less than school teachers Paid less than industry Higher exit rates than schools and NHS, double the exit rate of civil service New government doubles down on excluding college teachers from public sector pay award

Britain in two numbers: -251,200 - extra construction workers needed by 2028 to build houses -900,000 - 16-24 yos Not in Education, Employment or Training. Back our lost children to rebuild Britain thetimes.co.uk/article/back-o…

We need more, but this article fails to even acknowledge the 75k 16-18 apprentices starts last year. Also institutions don’t create demand for apprenticeships, employers do that after all it’s a job with training. ITPs are the superglue in that process ft.com/content/8422f5… @ft

A really good piece in today's Financial Times, on 'the UK skills crisis holding back growth'. Includes a very sobering chart setting out the decline in investment in adult skills since 2009, from both government and employees - both of which will need addressing.

Great idea Darren Hankey. How about it Evan Davis? You'd could highlight the scandal that more than half of our young people study in colleges between 16 and 19 & yet pupil premium stops at 16 & funding is 10% below 2010 levels & colleges (public sector charities) pay VAT as well
