Later this month, we will launch our new GM Good Landlord Charter. It will cover both social and private landlords. Crucially, it will be accompanied by stronger enforcement action against those renting out unfit homes. It is time to put #HousingFirst.

#Homelessness remains a big challenge & a political priority - lots of positive action being taken to bring TA numbers down & increase our supply of accommodation in Manchester. Looking forward to attending the opening of this scheme. Many others in the pipeline too.

Today, we welcomed Council Leader Bev Craig and Chief Exec Tom Stannard for a walk around Deansgate. We shared our priorities, concerns, and ideas, so that we can all collaborate to best serve city centre residents. It was a productive discussion - with lot’s to do!

Had a useful site meeting with Network Rail today talking about the railways that criss cross the city centre. We discussed the remains of the old Roman Fort’s eastern wall, tucked away in Castlefield.

A business at Barbirolli Sq highlighted accessibility issues on the Oxford Court footpath with me. The footpath has now been relaid with a less steep gradient and better drainage improving access. Thanks to all for help with this. Before & after pictures below:

Out and about today with some helpers, talking to city centre residents about how Manchester Labour 🐝 is building more affordable housing, investing in cleaner streets, and how the government is advancing renters and leaseholders’ rights 🏡 🏗️ 🏘️

For residents evacuated from neighbouring buildings to the Hotspur press fire, the refuge centre is the Holiday Inn, Oxford rd. Manchester City Council are working with partner agencies to understand potential impacts to surrounding area including the river Medlock.

Awful scenes last night. A huge thank you to our emergency services who have worked over 16 hours to get the blaze under control. We are supporting evacuated residents and hope to help them back home soon. Check travel before setting off this morning for any closures or delays.

Hotspur press fire update: Deansgate Labour cllrs have had confirmation that air quality is safe after overnight monitoring. We are now co-ordinating with our Neighbourhoods team to support clean ups in impacted areas outside of the cordon.

The heartbreaking moment when you or your family member gets the devastating news of terminal illness, the last thing you need is to worry about money & bills. So we are exempting people their families from council tax. Thanks to Marie Curie for championing ending poverty.

I attended the LGC net zero conference to hear how LAs and partner organisations are driving towards net zero. Tom Stannard gave an update on Manchester City Council targets & how we supporting the wider city to decarbonise. Good to see lots of collaboration and support between LAs

Happy to see this partnership between Manchester City Council, Canal & River Trust and land owners, continuing to battle the blight that is graffiti. A big thank you to MCC City Centre officers for the efforts and creative approach to tackling a complex issue

The Viaduct is an asset for residents and communities across the city centre. It’s great to see funding is secured for its extension including funding support from Manchester City Council. Excited to see how the Viaduct will continue to grow
