Cut out and colour 1st century British warrior from 1988, with a choice of helmets! I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t tempted to get the scissors and crayons…

From when Kinder egg surprises were both surprising and worth having… c.1980s British Iron Age warrior, in metal, with Battersea shield, Waterloo Bridge helmet, and indistinct torc. The horns are a bit droopy; I think he’s been dropped a few times.

When people say "we must look to the future not the past" I always think yeah but the past is quite useful for working out what to do in the future.

The specialist report that I wrote with the wonderful Dr. Melanie Giles on the amazing shield from Pocklington is out now in the Oxbow Books monograph, edited by Mark Stephens. Thanks to Paula Ware and all at MAP Archaeological for having me be part of it! oxbowbooks.com/oxbow/chariots…

Brace yourselves. No, really, brace yourselves. One of the saddest & most crushingly awful depictions of Boudica in my collection. Sorry- I could no longer suffer it alone😩 “Roman soldiers feared her - but admired her beautiful smile.” Dentyne advert, c.1939.

Hi all! So I'm hoping to start working my PhD on Iron Age shields from England and Wales into some sort of publication vaguely soon, but if any colleagues would like a copy of it for research or reference, let me know!

Abstract for European Association of Archaeologists submitted! Decided it was time to do a big conference again and get re-immersed in the world of archaeological research. Fingers crossed! Who’s going?

What is wrong with us? Why do we move backwards to move forwards. 40 years ago we had cultural icons who played with our gender norms. Now we’re disenfranchising people on the basis of gender and sexuality. Wake up people.

I’ve had a blast working as a project curator for the British Museum - I will miss my colleagues very much, but I’m really excited to be starting a postdoc at University of Leicester tomorrow with @archaeojapery!
