A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. (Rv 12:1) The Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of heaven and earth, is the Mother of the Church and our mother.

When the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to ransom those under the law, so that we might receive adoption. As proof that you are children, God sent the spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” (Gal 4:4–7).

Today our Church remembers Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, a Mohawk who converted to Christ and was persecuted for her faith in Christ. Saint Kateri, prayer for us.

“Christ is the fount of wisdom: come, let us adore!” (Antiphon) Saint Bonaventure sought wisdom through prayer and study. He filled the hearts of others with teaching, and in wisdom he built up the Order of Friars Minor (Franciscans). Saint Bonaventure, pray for us.

Today we venerate the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Through this Memorial, Our Lady invites us to imitate her in a contemplative union with Jesus and in total obedience to God’s will.

“Whoever humbles himself will be exalted” (Mt 23:12). We are called to follow the example of our Lord Jesus Christ who humbled himself and became the servant of all.

“I know well the plans I have in mind for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare, not for woe! plans to give you a future full of hope” (Jer 29:11). We are pilgrims of hope, and hope does not disappoint.

“Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb” (Lk 1:42). The Blessed Virgin Mary accompanies us and leads us to her Son, Jesus.

“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Gal 5:22-23). Come, Holy Spirit and fill our hearts with all your gifts.

“They stand before God’s throne and worship him day and night in his temple. The one who sits on the throne will shelter them. They will not hunger or thirst anymore, nor will the sun or any heat strike them” (Rev 7:15–16). In Heaven, there will be no suffering or death.

“When Jesus had risen, early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons” (cf. Mk 16:9). Saint Mary Magdalene, pray for us.

“In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also must love one another” (1 Jn 4:10-11). We are called to love others as God loves us.

“In [Christ] we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28). Grant good Jesus that we who are pilgrims of hope may walk in your ways and live for you alone.

“Ground that has absorbed the rain falling upon it repeatedly and brings forth crops useful to those for whom it is cultivated receives a blessing from God” (Heb 6:7). Saint James the Apostle, pray for us.

Today the Church honors Saints Joachim and Anne, the parents of Mary and grandparents of Jesus. Through their intercession may we always treat our parents and grandparents with the dignity and respect that are due to them.

You were buried with [Christ] in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead” (Col 2:12). We are one in Christ.
